COMPETITIVENESS OF UKRAINIAN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR:
AN EXPORT ANALYSIS
Anotácia:
Abstract:
Ukraine began major market-oriented reform of its economy in early 1990s and by now went through profound economic and institutional transitions, with important consequences for the organization of its agro-food system, output and productivity, as well as government policies. Ukrainian agricultural and food trade has changed as well. Nevertheless, over time Ukraine have expanded its agricultural exports to the new markets, mainly developing economies and some developed countries, including European Union. Ukraine is still some way from the "end of transition" with respect to trade, in the sense that further adjustments can be expected to take place in the years to follow. The speed and extent of these changes will mainly depend on continued restructuring at the primary production and processing levels, and how such restructuring will impact on productivity and production growth. It will also depend on the development of country's agricultural trade policy, including farther liberalization of bilateral and multilateral trade.
