Abstract:
Due to the impact of different factors, agriculture is reasonably perceived as one of the most risky sectors of the economy. The Ukrainian agricultural sector makes no exception in this respect. Substantial losses of agricultural producers caused by droughts of the years 2003 and 2007 facilitate the demand for a more proper consideration of risks inherited in the sector. However, agricultural business is risky and incomes from crop production are particularly prone to strong income fluctuations. Income stabilization in the agricultural sector plays an important role for overall economic sustainability and might justify income stabilizing governmental policies. Stabilization of agricultural incomes might significantly reduce incentives for rural-urban and international migration and human capital degradation.
