European identity and citizenship affected by cultural differences

Abstract:
Our paper will examine what are the differences in national identity, culture and different attitudes among selected European countries. This paper is just one the first results of a three-year long international research program among university students of five different European cities. It turned out that the students of economics in Gödöllő have quite strong European identity, but they would not be active European citizens, because they are much more interested in their carrier and study circumstances than in civic actions. They feel the problems and concerns of the recent Hungarian parliamentary democracy, but they don't know how to participate and get involved in that. It is clear, that beside the family, the education has a very important role in order to enhance that kind of competences of the students.
