Reduction in number of firms as a result of European integration
Anotácia:
Tento příspěvek se zabývá dopady integrace evropských ekonomik na snížení počtu firem na trhu. Postupné sjednocování trhů vystavuje podniky tlaku zahraniční konkurence a vyvolává tlak na snížení jejich (dříve neefektivního) počtu. Spolu s tím dochází i k růstu jejich velikosti, což otevírá prostor pro realizaci úspor z rozsahu. V závěrečné části příspěvku jsou rozebírána nařízení,která vládám jednotlivých států zakazují podporovat své domácí podniky a pravidla ochraňující hospodářskou soutěž.
Abstract:
This paper is focused on impact of European economic integration on reduction in number of firms on the market. Due to progressive market integration companies have been facing the permanent pressure of foreign competition that implies reduction in their (non-effective) number and increase in their capacity, which enables to take advantage of economies of scale. In the final part there are discussed regulations for governments of individual countries prohibiting support of domestic companies and some rules protecting market competition.
