Commonwealth Securities, firma riadená austrálskou Commonwealth Bank, vyvinula v roku 2007 nový ukazovateľ pohybov cudzích mien, ktorý je založený na hudobnom prehrávači iPod firmy Apple. Index CommSec iPod je založený na produkte, ktorý je rovnaký na celom svete, takže predstavuje alternatívu dlhoročného Big Mac indexu. K stanoveniu relatívnej hodnoty meny používa index paritu kúpnej sily a cena prehrávača bola prijatá ako prostriedok pre sledovanie hodnôt národných mien. Článok predstavuje iPod index ako časť najkontroverznejšej teórie medzinárodných financií - parity kúpnej sily.

Abstract:
In 2007, Commonwealth Securities, firm operated by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, has developed a new indicator for foreign exchange movements based on Apple's iPod music player. The CommSec iPod Index is based on a product that is the same worldwide, hence it is an alternative to the long-standing Big Mac index. Index uses purchasing power parity to determine relative currency value and the price of iPod has been adopted as a means of tracking international currency values. The paper introduces the iPod index, as a part of the most controversial theory of international finance - power purchasing parity.
