Competitiveness of the Polish food producers after the accession to the European Union
Anotácia:
Abstract:
The purpose of the present paper will be the assessment of the competitiveness of the Polish agro-food sector after Poland's entry to the EU.
The study will be prepared on secondary statistical data (IAFE-NRI, Central Statistical Office, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), based on which the following work will be done:
- analysis of the changes in foreign trade in agro-food products which will include: the total value and dynamic of the trade, the share of the EU (separately the EU-15 and the EU-10) in total trade, as well as the pro-export orientation of the agro-food sector (defined as the relationship between the value of agricultural and food exports to the value of sales);
- assessment of the situation in terms of price advantages of the Polish particular agro-food products with respect to selected competitors in the EU.
Looking back after four years of Poland's membership of the European Community one can say that the Polish agro-food sector has not only defended itself against excessive imports, but also that Polish entrepreneurs have significant competitive advantage and are successfully competing on the EU market.
